Dandelion Wine

Wow-that was a great book. Took me back to childhood summers and the games and the new tennis shoes and capturing lightening bugs. I don't remember many people dying when I was young, so I didn't relate to that. But I could relate to the fleeting days of summer that just fly by. For some reason this summer seems to be flying by, and I don't like it. I am not ready. After reading Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury, I was thinking about why people write the books that they write. Did he want to capture the memories of youth? Did he want to pass them on to others, or did he just write what came to his heart? And what about The Grapes of Wrath? Was that historical or was that to make me grateful for my life? Or did I just feel the characters' pain in some way? Each one of them had a pain that seem to touch me. I read that a few years ago, but I remember relating to each one in some small way. Maybe that is why they write: to give us something to relate to. And if you can't relate, maybe it means that some day, in some way, you will.

Summer Great Books

Welcome to Gibraltar's summer reading good talks! I have invited you for two reasons. I would like to have cyber discussions about the books we are reading this summer and to give you a little experience in blogging. Blogging is nothing more than an online journal. You can create discussions and respond to each other. Some of you are reading A Separate Peace. Others are reading Water for Elephants. I would like to start with letting you start the discussion. Once one of you gets it going, then I will explain some of the other features like tags or labels unless you figure it out. I know you are busy working, but I also know that you are reading. I just finished Water for Elephants, and am reading several others. I know you have to read The Grapes of Wrath, so you can include that if you would like. Woot, as you all say! You should be able to post by hitting the reply to post button.
